Nigeria Portugal Friendship & Business Association hosts dinner with Portuguese and Nigerian companies in Lagos, Nigeria
In the framework of a business mission to Lagos, the Nigeria Portugal Friendship & Business Association held a dinner on July 2nd in Lagos, Nigeria, to host a business group from Portugal and encourage the development of businesses in Nigeria.

Mr. Emeka Emuwa, CEO of Union Bank and chairman of the Association, welcomed the Portuguese companies and stated that one of the main objectives of the Association is to be a platform for deepening the business relations between Nigeria and Portugal. Nigerian companies looking to invest in Portugal and Portuguese companies who want to do business in Nigeria can count on the Association to support their efforts. Mr. Emeka Emuwa recalled that the association came into existence in 2012 with the active support and participation of the Nigerian Ambassador in Portugal, H.E. Ijeoma Bristol, and the Portuguese Ambassador in Nigeria, H.E. SimeĆ£o Pinto de Mesquita. "We had a feeling of warm relationship between Nigeria contingents and people in Portugal" and "The relationship has blossomed since it started two years ago because we discovered there are diverse opportunities in the both countries," Mr. Emuwa said.

Mr. Ade Shonubi, CEO of Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS) and Secretary of the Association, explained that the Association was established taking in consideration the potential business opportunities in both countries and that arose from a partnership of NIBSS with SIBS INTERNATIONAL. Mr. Shonubi called on the Portuguese companies to take advantage of the recent economic developments in Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Christabel Onyejekwe, Executive Director of NIBSS and founding member of the association, introduced the Portuguese group to Nigeria's investment climate and declared that the government has been working in every possible way to attract further investments into the country.

The business mission took place from July 2nd to July 6th and was promoted by the Portuguese Business Association. Ten Portuguese companies, led by Mrs. Maria Helena Ramos, Director of the Portuguese Business Association, participated in this mission with the main objectives of contacting Nigerian companies, acquiring knowledge concerning the business environment in Nigeria and evaluating investment opportunities.
